365 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WAGNER, Ivan Samuel Ivan was born on November 15, 1916, in Teeterville, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 9, 1940 and served in World War II. He was killed in action in Louvigny, France on July 18, 1944 and is buried in the Bretteville-surLaize Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France. A memorial stone is maintained in his memory in the United Church Cemetery in Teeterville, Ontario. For his service, he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Ivan and his two brothers were all killed during World War II. WAGNER, Theodore David Theodore was born on March 11, 1896, in Wellesley Township, to John H. and Amelia Caroline Wagner, along with six siblings, Conrad William, Martha Elizabeth, Louis Henry, Albert G., Philip A., and Clara Catharine. In the early months of 1917, the Allies were losing on many fronts of the war, so the Canadian Government instituted the Military Service Act, where all British subject residents in Canada who were born on or since October 13, 1897 and who were unmarried or a widower without a child on April 20, 1918, must report to the Registrar or Deputy Registrar under the Military Service Act, 1917. Theodore Wagner received his draft letter and he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in London, Ontario on June 6, 1917 with the 1st Depot Battalion. All new recruits without military training were subjected to basic training. By the time Theodore’s training was complete, the war was all but finished and the Government was starting to demobilize the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. Theodore received his discharge in London on January 21, 1919. Theodore passed away on September 18, 1963. WAGNER, Roy J. Roy was born in Stratford, Ontario on January 11, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on June 8, 1943 and served in England during World War II. He was later discharged on May 14, 1946 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Roy was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Stratford Branch 8 before he passed away on October 3, 1999.
