347 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TERRIS, Lloyd Gerald Lloyd was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia on April 11, 1910. He joined the army in 1939 as soon as he could after World War II was declared and he served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada, England, and France. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with overseas bar, War Medal 1939-1945, 1939-1945 Star and France and Germany Star. He was discharged in 1945. He resided in Brockville in the 1940s. Lloyd passed away on December 7, 1978. THOMAS, George Llewellyn “Tiffy” “Chief” George was born in Glamorganshire, Wales, on August 28, 1909. He came to Canada at the age of eleven, making New Hamburg, Ontario his home for thirty years. He was a skilled operator of precision lathes at Hahn Brass until he enlisted in the Army in Guelph on June 2, 1940. He was garrisoned with 16/43rd Battery, 12th Field Regiment, 3rd Canadian Infantry, R.C.A. He trained in Petawawa, Sussex and Acadie Military Camps, qualifying as an Artillery Artificer. He landed on Juno Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944 as Sergeant Thomas with the 12th Field Regiment, the first unit in the division to bring down artillery fire on “Mike Green” Beach. Discharged on October 24, 1945, George returned to civilian life with his wife Margaret (Panchen) whom he had married in 1935. They raised four children while he policed the town of New Hamburg, becoming the town’s first full time police chief. In 1953, he helped perpetuate the myth of the “Nith Monster” bringing tourism and worldwide publicity to New Hamburg. George was a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion New Hamburg Branch 532 and was their first President. George passed away on July 7, 1970. His name is inscribed on a plaque at Juno Beach Memorial. TESKEY, Lloyd Carson Lloyd was born in Ravenshoe, Ontario on March 12, 1914. He enlisted on June 11,1940 in St. Thomas, Ontario. He was in the Army (Regular Force) with the Elgin Regiment. He began as a cook and then he drove tanks. Lloyd was discharged in Melbourne, Ontario on October 16, 1945. At the time of his discharge, he was a Corporal. Lloyd served in Africa, England, Italy, Sicily, Belgium, and Holland during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal 1939-1945. Lloyd passed away on April 6, 1988.
