339 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STEWART, Bruce Allan Bruce was born in Oshawa, Ontario on July 26, 1953. He enlisted in the Army in March 1972 and served as a peacekeeper with 2PPCLI Winnipeg and 764 Comm Squadron Ottawa in Cyprus, Ismailia, Golan and Lebanon. He was discharged in March 1994. He is a nine-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 266/46. STICKNEY, William Clare Clare was born in Peel Township on October 23, 1912, to Mary and William John Stickney. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and served in Italy duringWorld War II. Clare married Reta Bernice Smith and bought a farm in Peel Township using the Veterans Land Act in 1946. In 1965, Clare moved to Maryborough Township. Clare passed away on November 14, 2002 and is buried in McKee Cemetery in Craigsholme, Dufferin County. STEWART, Robert Fraser Robert was born in Thompson, Manitoba on June 26, 1971. He enlisted in theArmy (Regular Force) on August 6, 1996 and served with 1PPCLI, Infantry School, Borden, Kingston, Greenwood, Petawawa, Kingston, JTFX, Base Maintenance, PSTC. Robert explains: “I love to help others, to teach, to mentor, to be useful, and to build cool things.” He got to do all that in the CF and shone doing it. During his PPCLI (Infantry) years, he had: a mission to Bosnia, where (on the side) he built a jungle gym for the kids; he did flood relief in Winnipeg; he “scratched” a teaching “itch” as Infantry School instructor. Once in the Materials Technician trade, he built a reputation as Mr. Fix-it and “builder of cool things”. All sorts of equipment items used in the field were at some point, somewhere, welded, bolted, stitched, glued, otherwise repaired, or even modified, by Rob. His most celebrated creation was two customized field ambulances in Afghanistan. Rob heavily modified these LAVs to keep their medic operators safe from enemy fire and landmines. He was discharged on April 14, 2023. His medals include the Queen’s Jubilee. Today, Rob lives near Kingston, Ontario with his wife and daughter.
