327 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SIPLE, Harry L. Harry was born on November 14, 1894, in Whitevale, Ontario. He owned and managed a general store in Selkirk, Ontario when word came of the opening of the No. 16 Service Flying Training School in Hagersville, Ontario. He applied to be a cook at the base in August 1941 and even though he was 43 years old, he was accepted and he served the duration of the camp’s tenure. During his service, his store was operated and managed by his wife and daughter. Harry was discharged in March 1945 and he passed away on February 16, 1975. SIROIS, Normand J. “Norm” Norm was born on April 16, 1948, in Chatham, New Brunswick. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 1, 1967 and served as a Radar systems technician at Bagotville Canadian Forces Base. Norm wanted to be a pilot but was colour blind, so he became a technician. He was also a member of the Lancaster crew at the Windsor Airport, a hobby he loved. He was a very good woodworker and could build and fix anything. Norm was discharged on February 26, 1969 and he was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Captain Brien Branch 201 for three years before he died on August 2, 2009. SIROIS, Léonide J. Léonide was born on July 11, 1919 in Sainte Anne, New Brunswick. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 and served as a Gunner in England, Germany and France during World War II. He was discharged on October 2, 1945. After the war, Léonide was a carpenter by trade and he passed away on February 8, 1986.
