323 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SHUTTLEWORTH, Arthur David Arthur was born on March 30, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on November 9, 1959 and served as a Peacekeeper with 2 Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He was discharged on December 21, 1965. David passed away on June 5, 2011. SIEGNER, Franklyn Jacob Franklyn was born on December 8, 1925, in Wellesley, Ontario to Abraham and Alice Siegner along with four siblings, Aral, Grant, Clayton and Maxwell. His public school education grades 1-8 were obtained at Kingwood school and grades 9 and 10 in Milverton. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) to serve in World War II in Stratford in March 1943 and was assigned to the Essex Scottish. After extensive training, he was sent overseas. After serving in England and Continental Europe, he was back in Canada and discharged in March 1946. He was employed as a truck driver, boiler maker, salesman and reporter. He continued serving in the reserves in the 50s and 60s. He was married to Rita E. (Nalon), and they had three children, Michael, Debra, and Mary. He enjoyed reading, history, gardening, and photography. He had a total of 31 years of continuous membership with The Royal Canadian Legion. At the age of 51, Franklyn passed away on May 20, 1977 and is laid to rest in St. Johns Cemetery in Gananoque, Ontario. SIEGNER, Albert Albert was born on September 8, 1897, in Newton, Perth County, to Louis and Margaret (Hamel) Siegner along with four siblings, William George, Gertrude, Clara Margaret and Larkie. The family was living in New Hamburg and Albert was employed at a furniture factory doing upholstery work when he received the letter informing him that he was drafted and to report. Albert enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on June 12, 1918 in London, Ontario with the Western Ontario Regiment, 1st Depot Battalion. He was transferred to the Engineer Training Depot in St. Jean, Quebec. On July 22, 1918, his unit boarded the SS Saturnia and he was on his way to England where he was stationed in Seaford. On October 3, 1918, he was admitted to hospital very sick with chills, high fever, and spells of vomiting. He was diagnosed with influenza. The war was over when Albert was released from the hospital on June 21, 1919. He was reunited with his Engineer Training Depot on his way to Canada and discharged on July 6, 1919. Albert passed away on August 5, 1972 and is laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg, Ontario.
