He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on July 9, 1939 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 1st Canadian Anti Tank in Canada, England and Italy during World War II. Leslie was wounded in Ortona, Italy by a German plane while trading cigarettes for chickens. He was hospitalized in England for several months before being returned to Canada and discharged in July 1944. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with overseas clasp, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, 1939-1945 Star and Italy Star. Leslie resided in Winchester from 1986 until his passing on June 23, 1997. RUTLEDGE, James James was born in Nova Scotia in April 1917. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with his brother Roy on November 26, 1939 and served with the Toronto Scottish Regiment duringWorldWar II. James resided in Toronto. His date of death is unknown. RUTHERFORD, Robert Nelson “Bob” Bob signed up on September 4, 1939, in London, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force and was in the 6th Canadian Tank Regiment First Hussars serving in France, Germany and Britain. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Battle of Britain Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Defence Medal. During the war years, Bob was involved in the boxing profession for entertaining the troops. He left the military on July 26, 1945. Bob resided in Melbourne, Ontario and passed away on October 24, 1965 in a truck accident.
