275 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NOBLE, Johnathan John was born in Windsor, Ontario on November 14, 1942. He joined the Navy in August 1961 at the age of eighteen and did basic training in Cornwallis. He was drafted as a sonarman on HMCS Inch Aaron, a 1944 frigate based out of Halifax. Shortly after they set sail to Bermuda andWest Palm Beach, Florida was their next stop as the first Canadian warship to get there. In 1962, at Great Lakes, John stayed in HMCS Star in Hamilton for two months, then off to the Cuban Missile Crisis. They were to be part of the blockade and just before arriving, the crisis settled and they returned to Halifax. They sailed out of Halifax in the North Atlantic several times. In 1963, John became a pay writer and was drafted to HMCS Bytown Defence Headquarters in Ottawa where he finished his naval career. John met his future wife in Ottawa then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1964. After basic training in Quebec, he was transferred back to Ottawa as a data processor. In 1965, he was honourably released from the Air Force. He is a member of the Kinsmen Club and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Paisley Branch 295. NUGENT, Ernest Ernest was born in Fenelon Falls on June 1, 1894. He joined the Army (Regular Force) with the 109th Battalion on November 15, 1915, but was transferred to the 93rd Battalion. On November 25, 1915, he was transferred back to the 109th Battalion. The unit embarked on July 23, 1916 and was disembarked in Liverpool on July 31, 1916. In France, he was transferred to the 21st Battalion on October 5, 1916. He was sick with Haematuria in May-June, 1917. Private Ernest Nugent was wounded on March 1, 1918. He came back to Canada and was discharged on March 29, 1919. Ernest passed away on June 11, 1959. NORDSTROM, Norman A. Norman was born in Killam, Alberta on February 17, 1943, to George and Elsie Nordstrom and was raised on a homestead farm near Bonnyville, Alberta. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 22, 1963 and graduated from Canadian Forces School of Aeronautical Engineering in October 1964. He was posted to RCAF St. Hubert Central Maintenance where, while parking a NASA aircraft in 1967, he met Verner Von Braun, head of Saturn V project. He married Valerie Lemmon of Creemore, Ontario in 1968 while posted with 414 Squadron to RCAF Uplands. Postings included CFB Baden Soellingen, 4 Wing, West Germany in 1971; CFB Borden CFSAOE in 1976; 427 Helicopter Squadron, Petawawa in 1984; deployments to RV-85 and Multinational Forces and Observers Base in the Sinai Desert 1986-87; CFB Uplands in 1987 with CT-109 Cosmopolitan Aircraft; CFB St. Hubert Language School in 1990; posted to Directorate of Transport and Helicopter Engineering, Rockcliffe in 1991. He retired on July 10, 1993 and went to Transport Canada as a Maintenance Analyst converting RCAF data to Transport Canada specifications. He served as Commissionaire at NDHQ before moving to Creemore in 2001. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Creemore Branch 397 and served in all executive posts except secretary and treasurer. Currently, he is Branch Service Officer.
