251 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McQUARRIE, Marjorie Irene Marjorie was born in Caledon Township, Ontario on June 5, 1914. The family moved to Erin Twp. Ontario about 1921. Marjorie received her education at the Erin Public and Continuation School and graduated from the St. Michaels Hospital Toronto school of nursing in 1935. In June 1941, Marjorie enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps as a Nursing Sister with the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the Chorley Park Military Hospital in Toronto. By October 1942, Marjorie had arrived safely in England. In 1943, Marjorie and her companions knew something was up when they switched from the traditional blue hospital dress to khaki battledress uniforms. Marjorie as part of the No. 15 General Hospital landed in Algeria on July 11, 1943 where they set up their hospital in tents at a very unsuitable site. In April 1944, Marjorie was now in Italy where the hospital was set up in former Italian army barracks. She was able to enjoy some leisure time and appreciated the Erin Twp. Red Cross packages she received. Marjorie returned home to Canada in July 1945 and moved to Niagara Falls in 1960. Lieutenant Marjorie Irene McQuarrie passed away in 2014 at age 99 and rests in the Erin Union Cemetery. MEIER, James Rowallan “Jim” Jim was born in Massey, Ontario on January 9, 1942. He enlisted in the Canadian Army with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp on October 19, 1961 and was posted to CFBWinnipeg. He then went onto Germany to CFB Fort Henry for three years. After Germany, he was posted to CFB Petawawa. After his release from the forces on August 16, 1967, he worked for E.B. Eddy Forest Products in Espanola, Ontario. He met and married his wife Jacqueline fromWinnipeg and were married for 58 years. He was the father of three sons, Derrick James and Gary Douglas (deceased) both born in Germany, and Craig Anthony born in Espanola. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Massey Branch 432 for 45 years. Jim passed away on May 15, 2021. MEIER, Derrick James Derrick was born in Iserlohn, Germany on April 19, 1964. He joined the Canadian Navy (Regular Force) onApril 19, 1989 and was stationed at CFB Esquimalt where he was on HMCS Mackenzie. He then toured San Francisco, Tonga, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia. In 1994, he was posted in CFB Borden where he met his wife Nancy. Shortly after Derrick was released from the Navy in April 1995, he and Nancy were married and they had two daughters, Rebecca and Ashley. Derrick and Nancy lived in Collingwood and raised their family. He had a love for his family, travel, and his animals. Derrick passed away on May 15, 2023.
