249 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McMILLAN, Terrance “Terry” Terry was born on May 15, 1966, in Renfrew, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) joining the Lincoln &Welland Regiment in 1983 and served until 1986 when he joined the Lord Strathcona’s Horse as an Armoured Driver. He served with the Strathcona’s until 1992 attaining the rank of Cpl. During his service with the Strathcona’s, he served for three years in the RECCE Squadron, two years with the Mounted Troop and a year in “A” Squadron at HQ. He also served a tour as a UN peacekeeper in Cyprus (UNFICYP) from 1988 to 1989, for which he was awarded the UN Cyprus Medal and the Canadian Peacekeeper Medal. While a member of the Strathcona’s, Terry had the honour of guarding HM Queen Elizabeth twice on her visits to Canada. He also guarded Pope John Paul II on the Pope’s visit to Fort Simpson, NWT in 1987. He was discharged in 1992. From 2010 to 2011, Terry served with the NewYork State Guard Military Police in the Rank of Sergeant E3. Terry lives in the Niagara Area where he enjoys restoring vintage military vehicles. He also collects military artifacts and enjoys attending local car shows with his vintage military ambulance. McNAUGHT, Harry Lorne Harry was born on October 20, 1889, in Monkton, Ontario. He was a carpenter by trade and went west where he enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 1, 1916. He joined the 102nd Battalion Infantry, CEF and 11th Brigade Div. 4th and sailed from Halifax in November 1916 to Liverpool. He served in England and France. Harry was a religious man and would not carry a gun, he did not want to kill anyone so he agreed to go as a stretcher bearer. He served alongside the 195th Overseas Bn. and was injured in May 1917 suffering a gunshot wound to the right chest, left arm, and thigh. He was invalided to Canada on the H.S. Araguaya in November 1917 and was formally discharged on February 28, 1918 in Guelph. He kept a diary of his days of service which the family found many years later. He worked as a carpenter, at a bank, and was on the Board of Education in Stratford. He married and had three children. Harry passed away on February 11, 1969. McMULLEN, Joseph Morell “Mick” Mick was born on July 29, 1916, in Sullivan Township, the eldest son of Robert and Lauretta (Calhoun) McMullen. At the age of three, the family moved to a farm in Invermay. He married Ruby Rathwell in 1938 and they resided at Arranvale, R.R. #2 Tara, where he worked as a carpenter. Mick volunteered in the Army (Regular Force) and served in World War II. He was a tank and crew member in The Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment, also known as the 27th Canadian Armoured Regiment and part of the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade. The 2nd Armoured Brigade joined in the seaborne assault on Normandy, on D-Day on June 6, 1944. The Fusiliers landed just west of Bernières-sur-Mer, at Juno Beach on the morning of June 6, and fought continuously through France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany until V-E Day, May 8, 1945. He was discharged and returned home in early 1946. After the retirement of his parents, Mick and his family moved to and operated the farm at Invermay. In 1958, the family moved to Guelph where Mick was employed as an Industrial Officer at the Guelph Correctional Centre. Mick and Ruby had four children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 383. Mick died of a heart attack suddenly at work on November 12, 1973.
