239 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McCUTCHEON, Harvey Douglas Harvey was born on January 21, 1919 in Wellington Co., Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on October 9, 1940 with the Lorne Scots Regiment in London and did training at #18 Service Flying Training School in Gimli, Manitoba. He was commissioned F/O on April 21, 1944 and served in Patricia Bay, Vancouver Island, BC during World War II. Harvey was discharged from active service and transferred to Special Aircrew Reserve in March 1945. He was released from the Royal Canadian Air Force in on March 24, 1946. He served as a Pilot, Flying Officer and Flight Instructor. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch. Harvey passed away on May 2, 1981. McDOWELL, Manson Donald “Mac” Manson was born on August 9, 1922, in Fort Coulonge, Quebec, but grew up in Shawville, Quebec in the Ottawa Valley. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 7, 1941 and then flew with the RAF as an air gunner (Warrant Officer 1st Class) 148th Squadron Special Duties. On July 3, 1944, the Halifax Aircraft and his crew were shot down over Sombor,Yugoslavia. Mac was captured that same day, becoming a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft-4. As the allies were advancing, the Germans were retreating and took their prisoners with them, making them march and sleep in the cold conditions of the season, from February until finally being liberated on May 8, 1945. After World War II, Mac re-enlisted with the RCAF in Ottawa. Mac and his wife Marion raised four children: Susan, Elizabeth, Stephen and Cathy. Another transfer brought them to Trenton, which ended up being their last posting. Mac and Marion loved the area and retired to the Oak Hills near Stirling, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Belleville Branch 99 and then the Stirling Branch 228. Mac passed away on January 10, 2007 and had been laid to rest beside his wife Marion (2004) in the Stirling Cemetery. McCUTCHEON (BAYLISS), Patricia Mae Patricia was born in Acton on May 26, 1926. She enlisted in the Navy on February 7, 1945 with HMCS Peregrine, Land Base. She served in Canada during World War II as a wardroom attendant. Patricia was discharged on March 26, 1946.
