205 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LACASSE, Norman “Norm” Norm was born in Blind River on February 3, 1946. In 1965, at the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the Royal Canadian Medical Corp. While in the Medical Corps, he was attached to different units such as the Engineer Corps where he learned to build bridges in Petawawa. After the engineers, he was attached to the Airbourne Regt. and he spent seven years with them. In that time, he completed over 400 parachute jumps, all training but no operational jumps. Also, while with the Airborne Regt. he was stationed in Cyprus with the UN peacekeeping force. Norm was released from the Canadian Army in 1978 when he moved and took up home in Port Credit, Mississauga which is where he lived until he passed away in December 2023. Norm was a very active member of multiple Veteran support organizations which included the Royal Canadian Legion, where he held multiple offices over the years including Sgt at Arms for Branch 82, Zone B7 and District B. Other offices in the Legion included Bar Manager, Cadet Liasson, Track & Field Chaperone and Bursary Chair. As a member of the Army Navy Air Force Club, he was their Sgt at Arms. LAHEY, Leo J. Leo was born in Bell Island on March 15, 1957. He enlisted on August 16, 1976 and served in the Army and in the Navy (Regular Force) in the Persian Gulf. He was released on August 16, 1996. He is a fifteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197. LAHAIE, Gaston François Gaston was born in Gracefield, Quebec on August 7, 1923. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on August 19, 1941 and served during World War II until he was discharged on September 8, 1945. He lived in Noelville, Mattawa, and Deep River, Ontario for most of his life. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Deep River Branch 436. Gaston passed away on December 18, 2013.
