201 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KIRBYSON, Claude Thomas Claude was born in Newmarket, Ontario on September 25, 1924. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on November 9, 1942 and served in Germany and in France. He was at Juno Beach on June 9, 1944 and was part of the D-Day continuance. Claude was discharged on February 4, 1946. He received the 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Canadian Forces War Medal and Clasp, and United Nations Service Medal. He married Christine Stephens and had two daughters, Donna and Linda, and one son, Bob. On November 9, 1990, during a Remembrance Day Service at Seneca College, Claude suffered a massive heart attack and died. During his forty years as a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Milton Wesley Branch 426, he sat as President and as an Executive Member. KOOGER, Pete Pete was born on November 11, 1949, in the small town of Oosterend on the island of Texel that lies off of the coast of the Netherlands. As a teenager, he took carpentry at the local trade school. At age 18, he did his one and one-half years compulsory service in the Netherlands Armed Forces with the Limburgse Jagers that were assigned to duty in northern Germany with NATO. He was released on March 12, 1971. In 1972, Pete went to Canada to work with an uncle in a construction company in the Port Perry area of Ontario. In 1974, he went back to Texel to marry his sweetheart Hiddi Bakker and the two of them returned to Canada to start a new life and family. Together they had two boys and a girl. Pete started his own business and was a very successful and respected contractor in the Port Perry area. Pete keeps himself busy by assisting at services at the local Christian Reformed Church, delivering for Meals on Wheels and driving people to appointments. His hobbies include camping and tinkering with electronics. KOEBEL, Lloyd Henry Lloyd was born on July 21, 1924, in Trout Creek, Ontario, to Eugene and Eva Koebel, along with six siblings: Virginia, John, Madelene, Dorothy, Henrietta and Cecilia. Lloyd enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in July 1941 with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps at the age of seventeen. After extensive training in Canada and England, Lloyd was shipped across the English Channel and into the War Zone of Continental Europe. He served in England, Italy, France, and Germany. Lloyd was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, France and Germany Star, and the 1939-1945 Star when he was discharged on July 26, 1945. Lloyd married Helen Florence (Tschirhart) and they raised one daughter, Randelee. After his release, he worked for Ball Const. at University of Waterloo. Except for his time in the military, he spent his entire life in St. Clemens. Lloyd Henry Koebel passed away on July 20, 1989 and was laid to rest in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Saint Clements, Ontario. Lloyd was a 31-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 and his name has been inscribed on Plaque #3 of the Legion Veterans Wall of Remembrance. His nephew, John Maloney, is a 46-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530.
