197 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KEFFER, Alexander Telford “Alex” Alex was born in Grey Township, Huron County, Ontario on November 1, 1934. At the age of eighteen, on December 19, 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) where he became an Aero Engine Technician with Group Three and Leading Aircraftman. Alex was honoured for joining the RCAF with a presentation at the Ethel Hall receiving a gift of a wristwatch and money. He trained in Winnipeg, Manitoba and served at Centralia in Huron County until his discharge on December 18, 1957. He met his wife Eva Zacharias while in Winnipeg. Alex and Eva were married in Brussels United Church manse on December 29, 1956 and had two daughters, Debbie and Rhonda. Alex was enthusiastic about aircraft throughout his life and entertained his inner pilot with remote control planes. Alex continued his education and completed his Electronic Technician Certificate. He used his electronic skills though his positions at the Campbell Soup Company in Listowel, Brussels Public Utility Commission, and Champion Road Machinery. Alex also had a love for trucking and drove trucks for Reginald (Rip) Sullivan, Brussels Transport, Sparlings Transport and Ryan Transport. Alex was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 for 23 years. Alex passed away on October 4, 2004. KENNEDY, John Angus John was born on December 22, 1929, in Inverness, NS. On August 24, 1959, he joined the RCAF (Regular Force) as an Air Force Policeman and remained Military Police until retirement on April 11, 1980. During his service, he spent time in Metz, France with the NATO Forces (1962-64), and served with the UN Forces in the Middle East (1976/1977). Throughout his career, John received the Special Services Medal, Canadian Peace Keeping Services Medal, Queen Elizabeth Coronation Medal in 1970 and Canadian Forces Decoration in 1972. He received the UN Medal for serving in Egypt during 1976 and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. John was awarded the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in 2006, and in 2012, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal honouring his service to community and country. After leaving the Canadian Forces, John was employed with McDonnell Douglas Canada Ltd as Chief of Security until his retirement in 1990. John was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Alliston Branch 171 and a Legion Poppy coordinator. He was involved in youth education, addressing local schools at Remembrance Day services, as well as speaking to Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and Cadets. John passed away in Alliston, ON, on April 9, 2017. KENNEDY, Brian Hugh Brian was born on January 8, 1939, in Montreal, Quebec. He enlisted with the Naval Reserve OSNAS on August 9, 1956. He was deployed in Canada. Brian resides in Lindsay where he is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sir Sam Hughes Branch 67.
