195 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JONES, Michael Frederick Michael was born in Charlottetown, PEI, on January 16, 1956, the son of Upton Jones and Kathleen (Oakley) Kirby of Orillia, Ontario. Michael joined the Canadian Armed Forces (Regular Force) in 1978. He served on United Nations peacekeeping tours in Cyprus and in Egypt. He was a paratrooper, ending his career at CFB Petawawa, Ontario with the Special Service Force, 2 Commando, Canadian Airborne Regiment. Following the disbandment of the regiment in 1995, Michael left the Forces having reached the rank of Sergeant. He eventually moved to Tillsonburg, Ontario in 1996 where he worked for Fleetwood Metal Industrial. He was an avid cyclist, known to donate bicycles so children could ride. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tillsonburg Branch 153. Michael died as the result of a road accident on May 21, 2019, at the age of 63. KEENAN, William Alphonsus William was born in Lindsay, Ontario on November 13, 1943. He also received his education in his hometown. As an eighteen-year-old, he joined the Reserve Forces in the Armoury on July 2, 1962 in Lindsay where he joined the local unit, the 45th Battery of the 50th FieldArtillery Regiment (The Prince of Wales Rangers). He was discharged on August 5, 1962. William still lives in Lindsay today. He is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 67 in Lindsay. KEENAN, George Wesley George was born on June 11, 1898, in Port Perry. Before the Great War, he lived in Oshawa and was a painter by trade. He joined the military with the Army (Regular Force) in Oshawa on March 28, 1916. After training in Canada, he left for Europe on May 17, 1917. He served with the 116th, the 183rd, and the 208th Battalion in Belgium and France and was wounded on August 28, 1918. He received the Good Conduct Badge. George returned to Canada after the war and was dismissed from service on January 21, 1919, at the 2 District Depot in Toronto. He moved to Lindsay and got married.
