191 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JAMIESON, Leo Roland Leo, the son of Charles Niles Jamieson and Alice Marguerite Peterson, was born in Picton, Ontario on June 22, 1916. Leo enlisted with Lorne Scots P.D & H Regiment and on May 8, 1941 and was transferred to the Saskatoon Light Infantry who underwent six months of vigorous training in Scotland. The Saskatoon Light Infantry had taken on 4.2” Mortars for additional fire power participated in Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily in 1943. In Italy, Leo Jamieson was promoted to Sgt. in September 1943 and placed as a mortar platoon commander. He participated in the battles for Ortona in December and the Liri Valley in 1944 on through to Christmas Day in Northern Italy. In 1945, Leo and his unit were moved up through France, Belgium and into Holland where the Germans surrendered. While on leave, Leo was back in Tayport, Scotland where he married Margaret Berrie on May 26, 1945. After almost six years in uniform, Sgt. Leo Jamieson received his discharge on November 27, 1945. His bride arrived in Canada in May 1946. With the assistance of the Veterans’ Land Act, Leo and Margaret built their house in Ballinafad, Ontario where they remained for the next 50 Years. Leo passed away on May 2, 2006. JENKINS, James Charles Gunner James Charles Jenkins was born in 1924 in Lindsay, Ontario. He received his education in his hometown of Lindsay. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Peterborough on September 12, 1941. Camp Petawawa and Borden were the first stations in his military life. After finishing his training he was transferred to the Royal Canadian Artillery, 99th Battery of the 19th Field Artillery Regiment. He landed on June 6 on Juno Beach. He fought in France, the Low Countries and Germany. He was wounded on April 12, 1945 when his half track hit two mines in Germany. He was discharged on December 8, 1945. After the war, he founded with his partner a hardware Company and he was a member of different organisations. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sir Sam Hughes Branch 67. James passed away on July 27, 2021. JEFFRIES, John “Jack” Jack was born in Montreal, Quebec on August 4, 1925. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) on August 11, 1943 and served on the High Seas on the Carleton, Montcalm, Cornwallis, St. Hyacinthe, Stadacona, Niobe, Avalon, and Peregrine. He was discharged on January 19, 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Ottawa for 24 years and in British Columbia for 12 years. Jack died on October 29, 1982.
