177 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HENRY, Lawson Edward Lawson was born on July 8, 1897, in Logan Township, Perth County, Ontario. He was a farmer until he enlisted in London on March 14, 1918 with the 1st Depot Bn. W.O.R. He was 21 years old. Lawson sailed to England on the SS Scotianin April 1918. He fought in France with the 20th Bn and then the 4th Canadian Res. Bn. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left knee in October 1918 and was sent home and discharged on November 4, 1919. Lawson died on May 11, 1960 and is buried in North Logan Cemetery in Logan Township. HERRING, James Robert James was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 19, 1919. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on June 22, 1940 and served with the Grey & Simcoe Foresters in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean area until his release on January 22, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Post war, James worked as a ward nurse manager at the provincial psychiatric facility for the criminally insane, known at the time as ‘Oakridge’ in Penetanguishene. He was married to Bernadette Ducaire for 62 years, and had two daughters, Debra and Linda. James enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. He was a sixty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Penetanguishene Branch 68. James passed away on October 30, 2008. HERON, Edward Tawse “Scotty” Scotty was born in Scotland on December 3, 1919. He enlisted in the Army on July 21, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers, 1 Canadian Mechanical Equipment Co in Juno, Holland, Belgium and France during World War II. He was discharged on January 28, 1946. He lived in Etobicoke, Ontario for most of his life. Scotty passed away on July 28, 2010.
