175 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HENDERSON, Archie Shedden Archie was born in Morris Township, Huron County, Ontario on November 21, 1919. He enlisted in the Royal CanadianAir Force in London on January 29, 1941. He started training in Brandon, Manitoba then proceeded to Toronto, Guelph, Fingal, Debert, Halifax, Lacine and then Trenton. He graduated from WOAG in May 1942 with the rank of Sergeant. He attended the Officer Training Unit prior to going overseas in September 1942. He attended the 7th Signal School in the United Kingdom. He served as an Air Gunner Flying Officer and a Wireless Operator with 500 Squadron and 337 Wing. He flew in Lancasters right behind the pilot with a small desk. Archie served in West Africa for four months, Corsica, North Africa and the United Kingdom. He was repatriated to Canada on January 14, 1945. He transferred to the RCAF (Reserve) General Section Class E in March 1945. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, Air Gunner Badge, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, MLAward and Clasp and Operational Wing. In civilian life, he married and had two children. He worked at Imperial Oil, Sarnia and then as a Sales Rep for Steelco Steel until retirement. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 for sixty years. Archie passed away on November 21, 2005 and is buried in Brussels Cemetery. HENDERSON, Robert John “Bob” Bob was born in Kincardine, Huron Township, Bruce County, Ontario on August 27, 1899. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 29, 1916 and served with 160 Battalion, 14 Battalion, and 2 DD during World War I. His unit sailed on October 17, 1916 and on March 29, 1918 he was in France. He was released on June 11, 1919. Bob had the badge of the 160th Battalion tattooed on his left forearm. He worked as a station agent for CN Railroad in Glencoe, Ontario like his son, Donald. Bob passed away on March 2, 1965. HENDERSON, Donald John Donald was born in Chatham, Ontario on April 13, 1933. He enlisted in the Navy on August 28, 1952. He was a specialist at HMC Communication School in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and qualified ABCR1. He served on HMCS Hunter, Cornwallis, Stadacona, Prestonian, Magnificent, Patriot and Saguenay on the North Sea, Mediterranean, in South America, and on the Pacific and did watchkeeper work, ship shore broadcast, and LSCR. Donald was discharged on August 30, 1957. Donald worked as a station agent at CN Railroad in Glencoe, Ontario like his father, Robert. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion.
