159 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GAREL, Francis DeSales “Frank” Frank was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 3, 1929. He left his beloved homeland of Jamaica in 1952 to travel to the United Kingdom where he joined the Royal Navy until 1954. He then crossed the Atlantic and joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a loyal seaman for ten years and served on many ships including the Niobe, Cornwallis, Stadacona, Quebec, New Liskeard, Bonaventure, Restigouche, Lauzon, Shearwater and Swansea. He was honourably released on December 13, 1964 after which he enjoyed a successful career in the boiler and machinery industry as a loss prevention consultant. Frank resided in Acton from 1997 until he passed away on May 6, 2017. GIBSON, Clarence Haskill Clarence was born on October 14, 1895, in Laird Township, Ontario, to Henry and Mary Jane (Eden) Gibson. He was enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) with the 73rd Btn, Canadian Infantry. On April 4, 1917, he was killed in action in the trenches at Souchez, France. Clarence is buried in the Villers Station Military Cemetery, Villers au Bois, France and his name is on a plaque in Knox Presbyterian church in Laird Township east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. GEER, Elwood Earle Earle was born on January 18, 1924, in Uxbridge Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 25, 1943 with #2 District Depot (AF) Unit RCA (A/A non mobile). He received his basic training in Brampton, Ontario and advanced training in Eastern Passage in Nova Scotia. He served with the Army Service Corps in England and Continental Europe during World War II. Earle arrived in Britain in August 1943 where he served in air defence until August 1944 and then in France, Belgium and Holland until the end of the war. He was serving in Holland during its liberation. He left Continental Europe early in 1946 and was discharged on March 15, 1946. He marriedAudrey Ploughman in September 1949. Earle was a twelve-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Perry Branch 419. He resided in Port Perry from 1949 until his passing on October 19, 2014.
