He enlisted in the Army (Reserve Force) on February 21, 1980 and served with the Lorne Scots. He was discharged on March 4, 1982. He resided in Acton, Ontario and became a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197 in 1979. George passed away on November 20, 2018. FRANKLIN, Herbert Elwin Bert was born on December 3, 1925, in GlenAllen to Robert Franklin (1879-1957) and Maud Barbara Mewhiney (1892-1972). He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and served with Highland Light Infantry from 1941 to 1945. Bert returned to service in 1949 with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Calgary, Alberta. As Sargent 3rd Battalion, Bert served for two years in Korea. On June 5, 1954, Bert married Marguerite (b1930) and a year later was stationed in Germany as a United Nations Peacekeeper. Two years later, Bert was back in Edmonton, Alberta, and in 1960 in Wainwright, AB. Bert was honourably discharged in 1965. Bert’s name appears on the Glen Allen Church honour roll. Bert died on January 7, 1993 and is buried in Wainwright Cemetery. Bert is a brother of Ray Wilbert and Ross Wilfred. FRANKLIN, Edward James Edward was born in Kearney, Ontario on March 27, 1938. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Calgary, AB, on February 14, 1957. After completing Basic Training in St. Jean, Quebec, Electronics Training at CFB Clinton, and Armament Systems Training at CFB Borden, he was posted to 427 Squadron as an Aero/Radar/Computer Tech. In 1957, Jim worked on the E5 System, which included the entire nose of a CF 100, as well as the APG501 Radar System and the A4 Retical Sight System on F86 Sabres. His postings included: St. Jean, QC; Resolute Bay, NT; Clinton, ON; Borden, ON; Trenton, ON; and Zweibrücken, Germany. Jim also served in the Reserves, as the Commanding Officer of 417 Squadron in Collingwood, ON; where he retired as a Captain in 1972, after twelve years of service. As of December 2022, he resides in Saintfield, Ontario and is a member of The Royal Canadian Uxbridge Branch 170.
