123 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DOBSON, Lawrence “Elwin” Elwin was born in the Village of Ethel in Grey Township in Huron County, on July 26, 1895. He was raised on the farm and helped his parents with the farming duties. When he was 23 years old, he joined the forces by enlisting in London, Ontario on May 17, 1918. He joined the 1st Depot Battalion W.O.R. and after arriving overseas, he joined the 4th Res. He became ill and was admitted to the 4th southern General Hospital, Davonport. Private Dobson died of pneumonia on October 12, 1918, only five months after enlisting. DOERR, Woodrow Elmer “Woody” Woody was born on July 25, 1918, in Kitchener, Ontario, to Elmer and Clara (Zinken) Doerr. He had two sisters, Marville and Phyllis, and one brother, Ralph. Woody enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in March 1942 and was posted with the Canadian Para Corps. He remained in Canada with the airborne and Lieutenant Doerr was discharged in September 1945. Woody married Katherine Rose (Luckhart) on December 10, 1941, and they raised three daughters: Terry, Gaye Ellen and Cathy. Woody was employed at Hahn Brass Ltd. which later became known as Stanley Works. His work ethic took him through various positions and culminated in retirement as Plant Manager. In his spare time, he was a member of Zion United Church, on the Wilmot Township Committee of Adjustments, New Hamburg Lawn Bowling Club and Foxwood Golf Club. Woody was awarded a Life Membership, as Charter Member, of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 532. He served as President in 1966-1967 and accumulated 43 years of continuous service. In September 1994, Woody sold his home and moved to a retirement home in Tavistock. Woody passed away on June 10, 1995 and was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg, Ontario. DODDS, Richard Paul Richard was born in Guelph, Ontario on January 26, 1966. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in April 1985 and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Cyprus and Croatia. He was released in April 1998. Richard resides in Acton, Ontario and is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch.
