119 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DEE, Maurice Maurice was born in Gaspe, Quebec on February 23, 1920. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on July 25, 1940 and served with Le Régiment de la Chaudière in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. Private Maurice Dee was discharged on June 18, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. After his discharge, Maurice worked for a time for a large paper company and was then employed by the town of Kapuskasing until his retirement. Maurice resided in Kapuskasing from 1956 until his death on January 13, 1995. DeMARS, Harry Albert Harry was born in Grantham Township, Ontario on December 16, 1922. He lived his entire life in the Niagara Region. He was the youngest of six children. As a teen, Harry worked on the “boys line” at McKinnon Industries in St. Catharines. Harry left McKinnon, enlisting in the Army (Regular Force) in 1942 where he became a member of the 4th Canadian Armoured Bridge RCASC taking him to northwest Europe. He was one of many Canadian soldiers who fought in the liberation of Holland. Leaving the military in 1946, Harry returned to Niagara where he married and raised four children with his former wife, Anna. For a brief time, he farmed in Pelham then returned to McKinnon Industries working on the “men’s line”. After thirty years, Harry retired from General Motors. He returned to Holland several times visiting the family that billeted him duringWorldWar II. He appreciated how Dutch children have been taught to respect the gravesites of fallen Canadian soldiers. Over the years, various members of the Dutch family visited him and his family in Canada. Harry collected donations yearly for the Royal Canadian Poppy Fund. He truly enjoyed talking to younger generations about World War II. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 for over 60 years. Harry passed away on April 1, 2019. DELISLE, Harry Maxim Harry was born in Windsor, Ontario (Delisle Corners) on October 3, 1921. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (Regular Force) on September 25, 1942. Leading Aircraftman Class E at RCAF Dauphin, Manitoba. He was discharged on January 25, 1946. After the war, he returned to Windsor as did three serving brothers. During his service, he married Lenora Holmes, and they had five children. He was a proud graduate of W. D. Lowe Technical School, and winner of the North American sharpshooting gold medal. Harry worked for Chrysler as a Labour Relations Manager and retired in 1978. Harry was a member of Chrymoto Club, Windsor and Riverside Sportsmen’s Club, a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Metropolitan Branch 594 and an integral member of the Branches Colour Guard for many years. Harry was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather who passed away on October 7, 2023, at 102 years young.
