3 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND 2024 Congratulations to the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command on the 11th edition of the Military Service Recognition Booklet. The stories of bravery and sacrifice within its pages help us remember, honour, and celebrate the patriotic individuals who have served or are still serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. Throughout this country’s history, they have stepped up to defend the values of freedom, peace, and democracy that we hold so dear. Many thanks to the Ontario Provincial Command of The Royal Canadian Legion for ensuring we never forget their bravery. We, as proud Ontarians, stand united in thanking these heroes for the incredible sacrifices they have made. In remembering, we teach future generations to be grateful for our hard-won freedoms, to understand the human costs of war, and to be eternally vigilant. Together, we honour their extraordinary acts of valour and selflessness. Doug Ford Premier A MESSAGE FROM PREMIER DOUGFORD

5 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND We finally made it. Vol. XI of the MSRB Book. I hope you enjoy flipping through its pages as you have with the other Volumes that came before as much as I did. At one point there was serious doubt that we would garner enough submissions before the print deadline, but you all managed to come through once again and the proof is now here for your reading pleasure. I sincerely hope that with the Royal Canadian Legions 100th Anniversary fast approaching, that it will provide extra motivation to make the next two editions something very special and have them chock full of new submissions sooner rather than later. I know there are still thousands of Veterans out there that would qualify for publication. Comrades let’s get to it and fill out those forms and get them sent in ASAP. Do I need to remind you all again that the monies derived from the advertising that appears in these publications brings in thousands of dollars which helps to subsidize the many Veteran Programs that we operate as Ontario Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. In this ever-changing world of ours it presents new challenges and struggles. Comrade Ron Goebel continues to work very hard in gathering submissions to appear in the MSRB Book. Vol. XI proved to be a real challenge as submissions for this edition once again were very hard to come by, but after constant pressure from Comrade Ron, we eventually received enough to be able to go to press. I cannot stress enough the importance of this publication, not only the fact that it is a constant reminder to us all of the many Canadians who did, and still do, step-up to help protect what we hold so dear, this valuable and great country of ours, Canada. Thank you, Comrade Ron, for your extreme dedication and the many years toiling as Chair of the MSRB Program. Thank you again to the hardworking staff at the Ontario Command Office, as I really don’t know what we would do without you. Thank you to our Ontario Correspondent, Roy Eaton, and of course to Ontario Command PRO Chair and Provincial MSRB Coordinator, Comrade Carolyn McCaul, and Comrade Rae Ann Bauman, Provincial MSRB Coordinator. Again, a huge thank you to the countless volunteers at Branch, Zone and District level. Without your contribution none of this would ever come to fruition, well done. Thank you Comrades for all of your support over this past year in assisting us with the publication of yet another most successful book. “We Will Remember Them”. 7 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND A MESSAGE FROMTHE CHAIR RON GOEBEL Welcome to Volume X1 of our annual Military Service Recognition Book. This book of Remembrance is a living testament of the courage, sacrifice and commitment that has been given to our country by the Veterans that we showcase in our various books of Remembrance. We thank them and all Veterans for their service in order that we may enjoy the freedoms that we so freely enjoy today. To date, we have published more than 7,200 Ontario Veteran biographies and photographs in our various volumes. And we thank them and their families for allowing us to publish their stories and photographs. In this, our Volume X1 book, we have captured the stories and photographs of 467 various Veterans. Thanks to the terrific advertising support that we have received over these past eleven years, as well as very generous individual donations received, our Command has now surpassed two million dollars in revenue during this time. We truly appreciate all of the support that we have received as it allows us to support several Veteran Transition Programs that assist Veterans into a civilian life. We continue to promote our important program by askingVeterans or family members of aVeteran, to please take the time to submit a submission form and photograph to your local Legion Branch for publication into one of our books of Remembrance. With approximately 225,000 Veterans living within the Province of Ontario, and many, many more Veterans who unfortunately have passed away, there are still many Veterans and family members of Veterans within the Province of Ontario that could have aVeterans bio and photograph published in one of our books. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Branches within our Command who have worked diligently in providingVeteran submissions for our books over the past eleven years.Your dedication, support, and cooperation towards the success of this very important program is certainly appreciated. I ask that you continue to keep up the good work. Special thanks to our two Provincial Coordinators Carolyn McCaul and Rae Ann Bauman, our District Coordinators, District Commanders, Zone Commanders, the staff at Ontario Command, our Provincial President, members of our Ladies’ Auxiliary, and all of my fellow Senior Elected Officers of Ontario Command. It is only through everyone’s continued efforts that we will continue to be successful in telling the story about our Veterans, both past and present, in communities across this great Province of ours. We will Remember them!

9 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND A MESSAGE FROMTHE LADIES’ AUXILIARY PRESIDENT It is indeed a distinct pleasure for me as the President of the Ladies' Auxiliary of Ontario Provincial Command to welcome you to the Eleventh Volume of our Military Service Recognition Book Program. This book is a book of Remembrance and I would encourage all members of the Ladies' Auxiliary who are also Veterans, to submit their stories and photographs for publication into one of these important books of Remembrance. This is a wonderful way in which to hear, learn about and remember, not only those who have served and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, but to also honour those who are currently serving in our Canadian Armed Forces. These books will serve future generations about the history of those Veterans within the Province of Ontario who have served our Country well in preserving peace so that we may continue to live in freedom and enjoy the good life that they have given us. Thank you to the Chair of this program Ron Goebel and the two Provincial Coordinators, Carolyn McCaul and Rae Ann Bauman for their hard work and dedication in making this book the success that it is. Also to our publisher Fenety Marketing for their continued partnership to make this endeavor the success that it has been. I hope that you enjoy reading the stories about our Veterans within the Province of Ontario, and I encourage everyone to support this program through the completion of a Veteran submission. Yours in Comradeship Kathy Moggy Ladies Auxiliary Provincial President
