393 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WRIGHT, Gordon Norman Gordon was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 26, 1923. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1940 and served during World War II as a dispatch rider in Sicily, Italy, and Belgium, where he was injured by artillery fire. He received the 1939-1945 Star. Gordon worked as a cab driver in Toronto and married Margaret in 1946. They had three sons who all served in the Canadian Armed Forces, Norman (Sapper - 2 Field Engineers from 1963 to 1965), Gordon (Corporal - Army Mechanic from 1970 to 1975), and Wayne (Private - Army Cook 1974 to 1975). He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Toronto for two years. Gordon passed away in November 1990. WRIGHT, William John William was born in Dumfries, Scotland on February 14, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force in May 1939 and served with 415 Swordfish Squadron. He was in the Battle of Britain, received the 1939-1945 Star, Burma Star, War Medal 19391945, and Defence Medal. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1949 and received the eighteen-year long service medal. He worked as ground crew for the Argus. He flew with the Argus over the North Atlantic during the Cold War. He retired as sergeant and was discharged in February 1971. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 35 years. William passed away on May 21, 2009. WRIGHT, Norman Ronald Norman was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 12, 1947. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1963 and served as a Sapper with 2 Field Engineers in Canada until his release in 1966. Norman worked at Aircraft Master Planners. He married Shirley in 1978 and they had one son, Steven Norman, and three daughters, Christine, Margaret, and Bonnie. He resides in Aurora and is a 35-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Aurora Branch 385.
