391 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WOERMKE, Clarence George Albert “Paddy” Clarence was born on April 15, 1913, in Madawaska, Ontario. In 1945, during World War II, he was conscripted into the Canadian Army at Pembroke, Ontario and assigned into the Pay Corps. After completing his training, he went on to serve in areas such as Brockville, Petawawa and London, Ontario. Clarence was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In Korea, he served with #4 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and 81 Field Regiment. He arrived from Korea on June 4, 1954. After Korea, Clarence, better known as Paddy during his military career, continued to serve in the military and after eighteen years of service he was discharged in 1963, at the rank of Staff Warrant. His medals included the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (WWII), Canadian Korean Medal, United Nations Service Medal (Korea) and the Canadian Forces Decoration. Clarence passed away on January 29, 1969, at the age of 56. WRATHALL, David Edward David was born in Hamilton, Ontario on October 25, 1948. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on January 3, 1967. He began training in January 1967 with the first group of missed Navy and Air Force Cadets following federal government decision to integrate the Armed Forces. He graduated as a pilot in December 1968. He trained in the Chipmunk, Tutor Jet, C45 Expeditor, and was an instructor on Musketeer. His operational aircrafts were Dakota C47, CC130 Hercules, Dash 7, Dash 8 Navigator Trainer. He participated in the following operations: Boxtop Resupply of Alert NWT, NATO deployments to Norway; Resupply UN troops in Cyprus and Ismailia Egypt, Entebbe Uganda during the Rwandan refugee relief from both Nairobi Kenya and Etebbe Uganda. He flew support missions prior to the first Gulf War. David received the NATO Service Medal for duty in Lahr from 1980 to 1983, and the Canadian Recognition Medal for over 22 years (CD2). He was released from service on April 3, 1997. David is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197. WOOD, Harry Harry was born in Gates Head, United Kingdom on June 16, 1936. He enlisted in the Merchant Navy/Royal Navy Reserve in 1953. His career in the Merchant Navy took him to many destinations in the world including the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Southern States carrying oil to distant ports and wounded veterans on other occasions. He also worked on nuclear submarines, including the “Polaris”. He was released in 1959. Harry emigrated to Canada in 1964. Harry is proud to say he sailed under the “Blue Ensign”. He is a sixteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tillsonburg Branch 153.
