389 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILLIS, Walter David Walter was born in Palmerston, Ontario on September 14, 1924. He joined the Navy (Regular Force) on May 15, 1943, and boarded a steamship freighter to Montreal then on to Cornwallis where he took a naval gunnery course. In Halifax, he took more courses and then sent to Vancouver assigned to the Quetico Park naval ship serving as a gunner. He saw service in England and when home on leave in 1945, he signed up for the Pacific Invasion, however the war was ending, and he was honourably discharged on November 23, 1945. He joined the CNR and retired in 1987. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 388 for 34 years. Walter passed away on September 25, 2011. WIPP, Frederick George Frederick was born in Port Elgin, Ontario on January 19, 1907. He enlisted in the Royal CanadianAir Force (Regular Force) in 1940 as a motor mechanic. He served in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was sent overseas to Ceylon and India. Frederick returned home from the war and continued to work in the commercial fishing industry until his death on December 18, 1956. WINSTANLEY, Albert Ewart Albert was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 22, 1921. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on May 27, 1941, and served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on February 23, 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138 Merritton for 45 years. Albert passed away on February 24, 2001.
