387 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILFORD, Arthur Warren Arthur was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on October 31, 1937. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on September 1, 1955. Once F/LWilford gained his wings in 1957, he was sent to 427 Squadron in Zweibrücken, Germany flying the F-86 Sabre as part of the NATO commitment in the Cold War. He left the squadron as Flight Commander and Fighter Weapons Instructor and transferred back to Penhold, Alberta in 1960 as a Harvard instructor. He achieved the coveted A1 Instructor category on Harvards and left Penhold as the Acting Chief Standards Officer. He was released on December 31, 1965. He joined Air Canada in 1966 and retired in 1997 as Director Systems Flying Operations. Arthur was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 442 in Erin, Ontario for 52 years. He has been residing in Erin, Ontario since September 1, 1971. WILLIS, David Walter David was born in Hamilton, Ontario on December 5, 1945. He joined the Navy (Regular Force) in London, Ontario on November 11, 1963. He attended “boot camp” at HMCS Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. From there, he joined HMCS Stadacona, NS. He was land based until stationed on HMCS Kootenay returning to HMCS Stadaconauntil 1966 when he was discharged on August 15. David is a 48-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 388. He has been a resident of Wyoming, Ontario since 1973. WILLAR, Stephen Fredrick “Steve” Steve was born in Brantford,Yorkshire, England, on February 20, 1944. The family moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland when Steve was only two years old. In 1962, at the age of seventeen, Steve joined the Navy at the HMCS Cabot Navy Base. He served three years in the regular service and then four years with the RCNR. After being discharged in 1965, Steve worked part time in Halifax while going to IBM school to be a programmer. After moving to Windsor, he owned Willar Carpet and Tile. Steve got married and helped raise three children. He retired in 2010 and belongs to the NATO Veterans Group, the Windsor Veterans Memorial Services Committee and the Canadian Naval Divers Association. He is a proud 25-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 644.
