385 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WIGMORE, Arthur Henry Arthur was born on December 7, 1911, in Richards Landing, a small village on St. Joseph Island east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to Henry and Annie Wigmore. He was employed as a labourer at Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie. On August 3, 1942, he enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) with the Royal Canadian Engineers and was assigned as a carpenter. He did basic training at Camp Petawawa and sailed for England on December 30, 1943. On July 18, 1944, while working on a bridge near Caen, France, he was killed during a German artillery attack. Arthur is buried in the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian Cemetery, Reviers, Normandy, France. His name is inscribed on the Richards Landing cenotaph. WILDFANG, Roy Roy was born in Doon, Ontario on August 4, 1897, to Dilman and Cora Louisa (Lutz) Wildfang and had six siblings: Ethel, Ella, Norman, Clarence, William, and Lucy. World War I had been underway for three years and Canada did not have enough recruits to reinforce the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Roy received a directive from the Canadian Government that he was drafted under the Military Service Act 1917 and to appear at the 1st Depot in Kitchener on November 5, 1917. He was accepted and proceeded to basic training. He embarked from Canada on February 21, 1918, and arrived in England on March 4, 1918. He was posted to 18th Battalion Canadian Infantry and shipped to France on August 18, 1918. The end of the war was in sight and the Canadian Forces were starting to demobilize. Roy was shipped back to England and then on to Canada where he was discharged on May 24, 1919. Roy and Alma Clara Catherine (Dotzert), sister of WWI veteran Clayton Dotzert, raised three children: Elaine Marjory, Gerald Roy and Jeanne Marie. He was employed at Valentine Martin/Greb Shoes. Roy died in 1967 and is buried in Memory Gardens, Breslau, Ontario. WILDFANG, Gerald Roy Gerald was born in Waterloo, Ontario, on May 24, 1938, to Roy and Alma Clara Catherine (Dotzert) Wildfang and had two siblings, Jeanne and Marjorie. He enlisted in the Army (Reserve Force) with 48th Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers and ended playing with the Trumpet Band. He received his discharge in 1960. Gerald was also a member of the Guelph Royalaires. He married Shirley Faye (Bricker) and together they raised five children: Stephen, Shelley, Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Jay. He owned and operated Triangle Insulation for 42 years until his retirement. He had a passion for life and activity and was continuously busy. The love of outdoors took him to Gillies Lake where he, family, and friends built a cottage which brought forth 47 years of good times, laughter, and many card games. He also devoted many years as coach to women’s softball and manager to the Waterloo BantamAA boys travel hockey team. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion New Hamburg Branch 532 for forty years until his passing on February 28, 2018. Gerald has found his forever place in the Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo, Ontario.
