379 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WALSH, John Robert John was born in Fredericton, NB on December 10, 1957. He enlisted in the Army in October 1988. He sailed through the Panama Canal in 1975 serving as an Able Seaman on the Royal Canadian Ship Yukon. He served for nineteen years in the CAF, fourteen years in the Army Reserves with the Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin, and Halton Regiment), and five years with the cadet program (COATS). He was released on October 29, 1992. Robert received the Medal of Bravery, both the Minister of Veterans’Affairs and “Ombuds” Commendation, QDJM, QGJM, CD and Grant of Arms in July 2017. He is a thirty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15. John has been residing in Brampton since 1990. WAUGH, Linda Jean Linda was born in London, Ontario in 1942. The Waugh family moved to Windsor in 1947. Linda loved to play baseball. After high school, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in St. Jean, Quebec where she had her basic training. She trained as a Fighter Control Operator. Her first posting was at RCAF Station in Senneterre, Quebec and she served in Quebec, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Germany. While in Germany, Linda ran the Europahof At Larh, a hotel that provided accommodation for troops and their families. She was one of five women to be commissioned in the Armed Forces (Captain). Linda passed away on January 15, 1975. WATLING, Reginald George Reginald was born in Chingford, England on November 12, 1919. He joined the Royal Navy (Regular Force) as a volunteer, served around the world against Germany and Japan on Class A Frigate Redpole and Battleship Warspite. He battled at D-Day, Gibraltar, and spent time in Cairo, Egypt; England; South Pacific and on the High Seas. Many onboard were sick with scurvy. The ship was damaged by planes and torpedoes and spent time in port for repairs in Seattle and furlough in New Zealand. He was wounded when a shell casing fell and crushed his foot. Reginald was discharged on March 1, 1946. He travelled from Seattle to Windsor to visit relatives and was in the Windsor Star. He met his wife in Windsor, Ontario and settled there. He worked for Hiram Walkers. Reginald passed away on July 2, 2011.
