367 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TANGUAY, Felix Felix was born on May 1, 1897, in Lake St. Patrick, Black River, Quebec, to Alex and Levina Tanguay. He joined the military with the Army (Reserve Force) on April 15, 1918, in Sudbury, Ontario to serve during World War I. He was assigned to the 1st Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment, 90th Canadian Reserve Battalion and was shipped to England on the HMS Somali on July 21, 1918, as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Although scheduled to go to France, he was held in England due to demobilization and returned to Halifax on the SS Belgicon June 23, 1919 and discharged on July 3, 1919. He resided in Ottawa for a while after his discharge. TANGUAY, John Joseph John was born on September 25, 1920, in Waltham, Quebec, to Alexander and Emily Tanguay. He was sent to Nova Scotia when he first joined the Army (Regular Force) in 1940 with the Governor General’s Foot Guard and then sent to England just after his 22nd birthday and lost his leg in the Netherlands in May 1945 and was discharged. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Arnprior Branch 174 for twelve years. John lived in Ottawa, Ontario from 1945 until his passing on August 15, 1991. TANGUAY, Francis Alexander Francis was born on May 9, 1918, in Pembroke, Ontario, to Alexander and Emily Tanguay and was raised in Black River, Quebec. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Toronto on April 3, 1941, and with his mining background was enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers (AES Wing) then transferred to the 4th Battalion Royal Canadian Engineers. He embarked from Halifax on September 18, 1941, for Gourock, Scotland. He was transferred to Manchester, England where he trained as a Dispatch Rider. He disembarked in France on June 9, 1944, and was posted to the 18th Canadian Field Company R.C.E. where he received the 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, and Defence Medal. He was a ten-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Metropolitan Branch 594. Francis passed away on September 12, 1988.
