He was the only son of a Boer War Veteran. At the age of ten, he immigrated to Canada with his mother and younger sister. Whatever education he managed to acquire came from being worldly, well-read and learned on the streets. A series of odd jobs supported his family and later his wife and daughters. Along the way, Fred discovered an aptitude for portrait and landscape painting which led him to his enlisting with the Air Force (Regular Force) ultimately painting many of the wonderful characters and designs on the Forces aircraft at CFB Trenton. Fred would have liked to have been a pilot, but his lack of education prevented him from this opportunity. Frederick passed away on November 20, 1993. He lived in Georgetown, Ontario in 1974.
