349 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SMITH, Richard Keith Keith, as he was called, was born in England on January 4, 1947. He served in the Regular Force from September 1964 to September 1966 and with the C.I.C. from December 1984 to December 2012. After thirty years of service, most of which were spent in the C.I.C. Air Element. A Canadian Decoration was earned after twelve years and a CD with Bar after twenty years of service. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Maj. Dwight Sharpe Branch 15 for nine years and Acton Branch 197 for 48 years. He had been residing inActon, Ontario since 1975. SMITH, Willard Willard was born in Holstein, Ontario on July 31, 1894, to Alphaeus Smith and Mary McLaughlin. He joined the Army (Regular Force) on September 22, 1914. He was a member of the 1st Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force inWorld War I and was deployed in France. He was listed as a Driver. Willard was wounded on May 4, 1915, with shrapnel to his right arm, right leg, face and chest. He returned to service on May 20, 1915. Willard’s younger brother, Howard, was killed in action on September 4, 1916, and is buried in Vimy in France. Willard returned home on June 6, 1919. He received two medals at a ceremony held in Mount Forest. Willard was married on December 27, 1923, to Ethel Peavoy and had five children. Howard, Stanley, Thelma, Shirley, and Violet were raised on a farm on the 1st Line of Minto Township (now O’Dwyers Road) outside of Mount Forest, Ontario. Ethel died on May 13, 1937. Willard farmed and raised his children alone. He died on July 2, 1971, after spending several years at Parkwood Veterans Hospital in London. He is buried at Mount Forest Cemetery. SMITH, Roy B. Roy was born in Tobermory, Ontario. He served in the Army with the Royal Canadian Engineers during World War II.
