337 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SCYTHES, Aubrey G. Aubrey was born in New Brunswick on October 11, 1911. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) on October 21, 1940, and served in Canada, France and Germany as a Lieutenant. He was discharged on September 22, 1946. He received the 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, Atlantic Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Aubrey was President of The Royal Canadian Legion Milton Wesley Branch 426 in 1947 and was a member for 42 years. He paid the Town of Newmarket one dollar for the property that Branch 426 still sits on today. Aubrey passed away in November 1989. SELLERS, Percival “Percy” Percy was born on September 22, 1889, in Brussels, Ontario and was raised on a farm. He went west as a young adult for a few years and only to return to live in Bridgeburg. Percy enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Niagara Falls on February 19, 1918. He was 29 years old and worked as a fireman on the Grand Trunk Railway. He went overseas on the Metagama in September and served in England and France with the 2nd Battalion. He returned to Canada eight months later, May 25, 1919, due to some hearing loss and demobilization on the SS Minnekahda and went to work for the Grand Trunk Railway. In 1928, Percy left the railway position, returning to care for his aging parents in Brussels. In 1939, he moved to Fort Erie and worked for the New York Central Railway until 1955 when he retired. During his time in Brussels, he was a Charter Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 formed in 1931. Percy passed away on April 4, 1966, in his 77th year. He rests in the Brussels Cemetery. SELBY, Leslie Vincent Leslie was born in Welland, Ontario on February 8, 1922. He took his Air Force training in Cambridge, Ontario prior to direct deployment to Gaspé, Quebec. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (Regular) from 1941 to 1945 during World War II flying reconnaissance missions throughout the North Atlantic shores of Canada in a Catalina aircraft. He was deployed out of stations in Gaspé and Iceland. He met his beloved wife Dora in Gaspé and married her on August 2, 1945, following release from the military. He returned to Fonthill and to his job with the British American Oil Company until retirement. Leslie was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Fonthill Branch 613 for over 35 years. He built his own home and both he and Dora resided there until their passings. Leslie passed away on October 6, 2015.
