319 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RIDER, Joseph Andrew Joseph was born in Weissenburg, Ontario on August 10, 1903, to Joseph and Mary (Lehman) Rider. He had eleven siblings: Alfred, Frank, Minnie, Maria, Pearl, Marion, Maggie, William, Anna, Elizabeth, and John. Joseph enlisted with the Canadian Forces but was denied for being underage. Determined to follow his older brothers serving in World War I, Joseph, at the age of fourteen and a half, enlisted in the US Military as Joseph Ryder with the 154th Depot Brigade. On February 27, 1918, he was assigned to the 312th Field Artillery and on September 16, 1918, to the 32nd Machine Gun Battalion. Off the coast of France, his ship was torpedoed. Joseph survived and went on to battle in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive Campaign that lasted until Armistice Day. He remained with the 312th until it was disbanded in 1921. On December 26, 1922, Joseph enlisted with the US Navy, patrolled the Pacific Coast from California to Australia on the USS Moody. Joseph became inflicted with pulmonary tuberculosis and was discharged Seaman 1st Class on January 20, 1926, and returned home to Weissenburg. Joseph passed away on August 22, 1927, and is buried with his brothers. ROBBINS, Cecil Delmar Cecil was born in Miller Lake, Ontario on February 10, 1919. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 10, 1942, and served with the Highland Light Infantry in Canada, Britain, and Northwest Europe. He was released on March 8, 1946. Cecil passed away on January 11, 2004, he lived in Miller Lake his whole life. RIZOK, George Patrick George was born on May 10, 1948, in Galt, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Reserve Force) on November 12, 1963, and joined the 111 Coy Royal Canadian Army Service Corp. George had his basic training in Sydney Cape, Britain and later in Aldershot, Nova Scotia. He was stationed for two years in Cape Britain where he worked as a drill sergeant and in Armor Recovery. In 1965, George moved to Ontario and joined the 39th Tech Squadron of the RCEME. In 1970, George was married and raised three children. After being discharged in July 1987 in Windsor, Ontario, George went to work as a millwright for the Ford Motor Company. In 2007, he retired but still works part-time as a millwright. He is a fiveyear member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124.
