305 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PRATT, Wilson Delville Wilson was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 16, 1913. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on February 1, 1941, and served in England until his release on June 6, 1945. He had been a Toronto resident his whole life until his passing on October 21, 1984. PROUD, Clarence C. D. Clarence was born on July 14, 1898, in Walters Falls, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in Owen Sound on December 20, 1916 and arrived in France in November 1917 to serve with the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. Private Proud was killed in action onAugust 25, 1918 and he is buried at the Ligny-St. Flochel British Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. PRESTON, Joan Joan was born on January 5, 1924, in London, England. Before enlisting, she worked at a factory making and testing binoculars. In 1941, at the age of seventeen, she enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) with the Women’s AuxiliaryAir Force (WAAF) while her mother was away and could not talk her out of it. Her basic training was in Innisfail, Gloucestershire and further trained in Cranville. From 1941 to 1946, Joan worked for Bomber Command in England and the Southeast Asia Command as a teletypist in the Teleprint and Signals division and was assigned to many stations, often seeing the planes leave at night. She was on a Dutch ship headed to Ceylon, Columbo, and chased by a U-boat for the duration of the trip. She then went to Bombay. It was in Ceylon that she met and married her husband during the Battle of Ceylon. Her husband was in the Royal Navy. She received the Burma Star. She was discharged in 1946, lived in the United States, and moved to Canada in 1956. Joan is currently a Veteran of The Royal Canadian Legion Todmorden Branch 10 in Toronto residing in the Sunnybrook Hospital Veteran Wing.
