299 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PETTIT, Harold I. Harold was born in Sarnia, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on September 29, 1941 with the CPC and served in Italy, Belgium and England. For his service, he received the Service Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. The youngest of eight brothers to serve, Harold was discharged on March 4, 1946. He married Joan Fellowes and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Dennis Branch 31 before he passed away on December 21, 1989. PHILLIPS, Mark Charles Mark was born in Montreal, Quebec on September 1, 1958. He enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) on July 30, 1975 and served in the Canadian Armed Forces for over 41 years until his release on November 30, 2020. Commissioned as a Military Engineering Officer after graduating from Military College in Saint Jean, Mark served in the fields of Construction Engineering, Combat Engineering and Geospatial Engineering. He also served as Aide de Camp to Governor General Jeanne Sauvé. Following his first 27 years of Regular Force service, Mark retired after being offered a new career with a high-tech company, but re-enlisted as a Class A part-time Reservist, becoming Commanding Officer of 33 Combat Engineering Regiment in Ottawa. After his Command, he managed the Afghanistan Legacy Project on a Class B full-time Reserve contract. He then deployed on a six-month Class C Reserve UN peacekeeping mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Upon returning to Canada, Mark transferred back into the Regular Force for the last eight years of his career. Mark has always been very involved in his community, contributing literally tens of thousands of hours volunteering at numerous community organizations, and has donated blood over 325 times. He is an eleven-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 314. PHAIR, Jack M. Jack was born on April 25, 1922, in Dresden. He enlisted in Windsor on September 4, 1942, trained as an L.A.A. Gunner and served in England and Continental Europe. He married Geraldine in 1943, was promoted to A/Cpl. on May 16, 1944 and wounded in France by a gunshot to the elbow resulting in a fracture. He was awarded the Good Conduct Badge, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Volunteer Badge, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star as well as the Defence Medal. Discharged on October 26, 1945, he started farming in Moore Township and also worked at McKay Construction followed by Lambton Generating Station. He retired with Geraldine to Brigden after suffering a stroke in 1975. Jack and his wife have one daughter and he passed away on August 15, 1983.
