291 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PAQUETTE, Germaine J. Germaine was born in Chapleau, Ontario on July 2, 1925. He joined the Navy on February 11, 1944 and served as a radar technician on HMCS Lachineon the high seas until October 26, 1945 after which he joined CP Rail on January 19, 1946. Germaine was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Harry Searle Branch 5 for 62 years until he passed away on October 14, 2007. PARKER, Donald L. Donald was born on October 14, 1924, in Chatham, Ontario. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1942 and served on HMCS Gilford and HMCS Ottawa on convoy duties in the NorthAtlantic. On D-Day, Donald was aboard HMCS Ottawa. He was discharged in November 1945. He had worked as a commercial fisherman for a while prior to working on board the coal carrier S.S. Alexander Leslie, on which he served before and after the war. After this, he went to work for Bermington Construction as a hoist engineer. He married Mildred Punnett and they had five children. Donald was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Corporal Harry Miner V.C. Branch 185 for more than fifty years before he passed away on June 13, 2011. PARENT, Dona Adrien Dona was born in Windsor, Ontario on October 11, 1936. He joined the Army on October 24, 1958, and did his basic training in Petawawa with the 1st Canadian Guards and was assigned to the rifle team. In November 1959, he and his wife left for Germany. He spent more time on the rifle team competing against other countries serving under NATO. In August 1961, the Berlin Wall was going up and they were put on high alert. In June 1962, the Canadian Guards team won the Prix Lecler Gold Medal, the first for Canada. He returned to Canada in 1962 and served in Picton on the rifle team. In October 1964, their unit was sent to Cyprus for a United Nations peacekeeping mission and returned in April 1965. He was honourably discharged on August 3, 1965, and worked at Chrysler of Canada retiring in December 1994. With the Veterans Windsor Memorial Services Committee, Dona tries to participate in most memorial services for our deceased Veterans. He is a proud 45-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 261.
