289 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND OVERBEEK, Bryan C. Bryan was born in the Netherlands on January 12, 1944, and his family immigrated to Canada. He joined the RCN in May 1962. Bryan served in Canada and on the High Seas on HMCS Cornwallis in May 1962, Albro Lake Naval Radio Station in May 1963 and on HMCS Bonaventure. He was released in 1965. He then joined the OPP service and was married. He was posted to several areas of the province and his final posting was Bala, Ontario. Bryan and his wife built their home in Bala and Bryan worked in the building and repair area. They have two sons who both live in the Muskoka area. Bryan was a member of The Bala Lions Club as well as The Royal Canadian Legion Bala Branch 424. PALBISKI, Gordon Earl Gordon was born on February 17, 1923, in Whitney, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1942, in Toronto to serve in World War II. After his basic training in Brantford, he went to Borden, Ontario and was assigned as a Petrol Truck Driver with A19 Transport Company of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. In 1943, he went to Debert, Nova Scotia, a holding base for troops going overseas. Shortly after, he departed Halifax aboard the ocean liner Ile de France sailing to Greenwich, Scotland. Once in England, he served with the 1st Army Transport and was sent to Aldershot and Dorking where they completed exercises in cross country convoys and waterproofing vehicles and equipment for the Normandy landing on June 6, 1944. Throughout the war, Gordon spent time in Bernières-sur-Mer, Caen, France, Belgium, Nijmegen Holland and Oldenberg, Germany, where he learned that the war had ended. He sailed from Liverpool, England returning to Quebec City. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. Gordon was discharged on March 11, 1943, at the rank of Private. He passed away on October 7, 2017, at the age of 94. OZORIO, Raymond M. Raymond was born in Shanghai, China on June 27, 1937, to Portuguese parents. The family immigrated to Vancouver, BC in October 1951. He joined the Army Cadets (Irish Fusiliers) from fourteen to seventeen years old. He enrolled in the Royal Canadian Navy on October 29, 1954 as an Ordinary Seaman at HMCS Discovery Vancouver and retired from the Regular Force as Lieutenant Commander in October 1989. He served as a reservist at NDHQ DRes and Cadets from 1989 to 1997. As a proud member of the CFMS, he served at CFH’s Cornwallis, Halifax, Esquimalt, NDMC Ottawa and with NATO at CFH Europe (Lahr, Germany). As a CPO1 (CWO), he served at NDHQ Surgeon General, SWO(RSM) CFMSS Borden, and HWO NDMC. CFR’d in 1981 to LT(N), he served in NDMC, NDHQ, and CFH Europe. As a Med A, he served at sea in HMCS Bonaventure, Lauzon, Lanark, Cap de la Madeleine, and Yukon and did temporary duty on HMCS Magnificent and Chaudiere. In retirement, he spent eighteen winters in Florida with wife Ann and finally settled in Windsor, Ontario. He received the Canadian Forces Decoration (3 bars), Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal, and NATO Medal. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255 since 1955.
