287 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ORR, Charles Henry Charles was born on June 21, 1897, in Coldwater in Simcoe County, Ontario and enlisted in the Army on October 12, 1915 during World War I. Charles served in Canada and France before being killed in action in the trenches at Hill 70 in Loos, France on August 19, 1917. The reported location of his grave is about one and three-quarter miles north of Lens, France. His name is noted on the monument at Vimy Ridge. OVENS, Frank Newton Frank was born on November 2, 1902, near Lucan, Ontario. He was a member of ROTC with a rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1926, he joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals posted to Winnipeg. In 1929, he was promoted to Captain stationed in Regina for 4 years, then in the Maritimes in 1933 and was a Major in 1936. Returning in 1938, he was posted to Kingston and was there when the war broke out in 1939. The Signals Corp of the 4th Canadian Armored Division was mobilized under Lieutenant Col Frank N. Ovens in August 1941 and moved to Debert, NS for training for 13 months. In the fall of 1942, his unit reached England. Frank was transferred to Canadian Army HQ in London, England and moved with HQ to France and Germany with the Invasion forces. In 1945, Frank was awarded the OBE by King George VI. He also received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, CVSM and Bar, Defence of Britain Star, War Medal 1939-1945 and CD and Bar. He returned to Canada in late 1945 and remained with the Canadian Armed Forces based in Montreal, Kingston and Oakville serving as Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General. He passed away at the age of 93 on December 11, 1995. OSBORNE, Owen J. Owen was born in Abernethy, Saskatchewan on February 19, 1926. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1944 and served on HMCS Hawkesburyon the High Seas during World War II. He was discharged in September 1945. He lived in Ottawa and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Westboro Branch 480. Owen passed away on June 25, 2016.
