275 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MURRAY, Dennis Marshal Dennis was born in Richmond, Indiana on August 10, 1946. After leaving high school, he took a job as an apprenticeship in upholstery, but decided that he wanted to serve in the US Navy. He enlisted in the US Navy (Regular Force) on May 9, 1967. He was accepted and after Boot Camp, he was sent to Guam. Eighteen months later, he was on his way to Vietnam, where he served on a Patrol Boat River (PBR) at Mobile Base 2. He was discharged in November 1970. He decided to obtain a University Degree, which he did after leaving the Navy, obtaining a Civil Engineering Degree. Dennis returned to Canada in 1975 and worked as a Plant Engineer in Calgary, Alberta for four years. He returned to Cambridge, Ontario where he started his own paper shredding company and then moved to Langton, Ontario where he resides with his family. MURRAY, John John was born on May 31, 1902, in Glasgow, Scotland. After coming to Canada, he enlisted in the Canadian Army on July 4, 1940, in Hamilton, Ontario into the Infantry at the age of 38. Due to his experience in the Reserves, he was promoted quickly to the rank of Sergeant. He became a member of the Argyll Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s) in Hamilton working in the Infantry (Pioneer) Platoon and on Rigger Structural Steel. He trained soldiers at Niagara on the Lake, Allanburg, Ontario and Jamaica. Eventually, he went overseas and served 26 months in Guildford, Surrey, England employed as Sgt I/CAir Defence with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. John returned to Canada in September 1945. His medals include the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Due to demobilization, John was discharged on October 16, 1945, at the rank of Sergeant. He passed away on April 29, 1961, at the age of 59. His son, John Thomas Murray, served in Korea and his granddaughter, Heather Poliquin, served 36 years in the Canadian Forces. MURRAY, John Thomas John was born on September 16, 1933, in Hamilton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 26, 1951, as an Infantryman in Toronto, Ontario. John did a lot of his training in Calgary, AB; Petawawa, ON, and Camp Ipperwash, ON. He served with 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Calgary and also with the 1st and 2nd Canadian Guards formally known as Regiment of Canadian Guards in Petawawa. John was a Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Korean Veterans Association. He was a recipient of the Canadian Korea Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea, and the United Nations Service Medal (Korea). He was discharged in 1959 at the rank of Corporal. John passed away on September 30, 2000, at the age of 67. His daughter, Heather Ann, also served in the Canadian Forces both Regular and Reserve service for a total of 36 years.
