273 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MUNRO, Geddes James “Red” Red was born on December 11, 1925. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II having served from 1942 to 1945. He retired as Chief Petty Officer HMCS Hunter in Windsor, Ontario. He was a life member of The Royal Canadian Naval Association and Chief and P.O. Mess HMCS Hunter. Red was also a member of HMCS Huron Association and was a member of the Wavy Navy Band. He continued to work and live in Windsor and retired after 37 years of employment with Chrysler Corporation. Red passed away on March 14, 2005. MURRAY, Bruce Bruce was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 11, 1914, the son of Alexander and Georgina Murray. During World War II, he enrolled in the Canadian Army (Regular Force) on February 8, 1941. Private Murray shipped overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, leaving a young wife and infant son behind. He served with the RCASC in the United Kingdom, France, and Holland, sometimes employed as a motorcycle messenger until he was demobilized at the end of the war in 1945. He moved back to the west end of Toronto where he eventually took over his parents’ confectionery store. He continued to operate the store with his wife Molly while they raised four children. When his health declined, Bruce found a place at the Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital in Toronto. He passed away on April 7, 1986, at the age of 71. MURIEL, Joyce M. Joyce was born on April 19, 1924, in Westcott, England. She joined the Air Force on April 20, 1942, at the age of seventeen, in Croydon, England. Her basic training was completed in Gloucester. On August 17, 1942, Joyce remustered to Balloon Operator with the classification of ACWL. Joyce got married in 1944 to an Air Force Pilot. They raised three children. She was discharged on April 3, 1944. Her husband came to Canada in 1957 and Joyce and the children came a year later. Joyce is now retired and living in La Salle, Ontario. She is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 94.
