263 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MINK, Allan W. Allan was born in Chesley, Ontario on May 11, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on September 15, 1942 and was discharged in April 1946. He served in Italy and Northwest Europe with the 48th Highlanders of Canada in the 1st Canadian Division. Allan’s two ear drums were damaged by artillery fire but he refused to be sent home with a medical discharge. So he was posted to the #1 Canadian General Hospital as an orderly and ambulance driver. This exposed him to as much danger as being in the Infantry; it also meant he was later getting home than his buddies. Allan was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chesley Branch 144 for sixty years before he passed away on October 15, 2006. MITCHELL, Gerald I. Gerald was born in Oil Springs, Ontario on January 11, 1915. He enlisted in the CanadianArmy and was based in Newfoundland, waiting to be dispatched overseas but the war ended before that could happen. On discharge, he owned and worked in the oil fields at Oil Springs, Ontario. Gerald died on August 9, 2007. MISSON, Bernard L. Bernard was born on March 4, 1925, inWindsor, Ontario. He was part of the Royal Canadian Navy serving on HMCS Oshawa during World War II. He was discharged on November 1, 1945. Bernard was a member of Wallaceburg Legion Branch 18 for fifty years before he passed away on March 17, 1994.
