239 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MCELMAN, James O. James was born on March 5, 1918, in Marysville, New Brunswick. He was a career banker with the Royal Bank working in Fredericton, Plaster Rock, Moncton, Montreal and Ottawa before he enlisted in the Air Force in Moncton, New Brunswick on July 20, 1940. He served as an Air Gunner after training in western Canada, Ontario and England where he was injured in an airplane crash. After being discharged in Rockcliffe Air Force Base on August 9, 1943, he resumed his career at RBC which lasted more than 40 years. James was married to Kathleen Currie for 63 years and they had two children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Mount Royal before he passed away on April 6, 2008. MCINTOSH, Donald Donald was born on May 7, 1916, in Kenogami, Quebec and was a member of the services from July 1941 to November 1945. He enlisted with the Duke of Connaught’s Hussars before being transferred to the Royal Canadian Artillery. Donald remembers the long voyage at sea, leaving England and arriving in Sicily. He served as a Trooper through the Italian campaign at Monte Cassino, then was stationed in Naples and southern France before being sent to Belgium and Holland. Donald passed away on July 1, 2004. McGREGOR, Ross James Ross was born on March 10, 1918, in Richards Landing, a small community on St. Joseph Island east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to William and Janet McGregor. His enrolment documents state that he was a ball mill operator at the local chromium plant in Sault Ste. Marie. On January 10, 1941, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury Regiment and on October 17, 1941, he joined the Royal Regiment of Canada. During his service, he was wounded in August 1944. In a library book, a newspaper clipping about the McGregor family receiving notice around December 15, 1944, that their son, Ross, had been killed in action, possibly in Belgium. Official records state the date of his death as December 3, 1944. Ross is buried in the Nijmegen cemetery in the Netherlands. His name is inscribed on the Richards Landing cenotaph.
