219 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MacGREGOR, Roy Allister Roy was born on July 12, 1891, on the family farm in Douglas, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on November 27, 1915, and was trained in Ottawa and Kingston. Due to his experience with horses, he was assigned to the 3rd Division, Ammunition Column, 33rd Battery CFA to transport artillery shells from the ammo dump to the field guns on the lines. They each had a saddle horse and led a team of five mules each carrying eight rounds of eight-pounder shells. In 1916, he sailed to England. After further training, he was sent to France and then Belgium. The Third Canadian Division was involved in the battle of The Somme, Vimy Ridge, andYpres/Passchendaele. He was involved in each of these, although was likely shipped out just before the actual fighting at Ypres. He was shipped out due to lung disease on July 16, 1917, and was hospitalized in Dundee, Scotland. Unfortunately, he then contracted influenza during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and his lungs never recovered. He was then sent home in 1918 and spent many months in hospital. He was discharged in February 1919. He married in 1929 and worked the family farm until his death on June 12, 1958, at the age of 66. MACKENZIE, James M. James was born on October 24, 1919, in Skeldon, Ayrshire, Scotland. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the Toronto Scottish Cameron Highlanders in Canada, England as well as other parts of Europe until his discharge in 1945. He was a member of Fergus Legion Branch 275 before he passed away on May 1, 2003. MacKAY, Carsten Simon Carsten was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on September 18, 1935. He enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and served as a sailor on HMCS Cayuga and HMCS Huron in all places under NATO. He was discharged in 1963. After returning home to a wife and four children, he worked on a farm then moved from Nova Scotia to Toronto where he worked with a friend, and a fifth child was born. He eventually started his own company, MacKay Chemical Cleaning Co. Later, he finished his small engine repair training and worked on swing stages to repair motors both in the shop and on the sides of tall buildings in Toronto. He is a fiftyyear member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 582 Col. Tom Kennedy Branch in Mississauga, Ontario.
