213 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LUTY, Zygmont Joseph Zygmont was born in Tide Lake, Alberta on February 24, 1915. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1940 and served with 5th Canadian Armoured, 1st Battalion NewWestminster in Holland, France, Italy and England. He served as a cook and also cut hair. He was released in 1945. Zygmont was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197. He was a resident of Acton, Ontario from 1939 until his passing on May 18, 2012. LYONS, Lorne A. Lorne was born on June 21, 1919, in London, Ontario. Prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy on April 10, 1939, he worked as a butcher for Swifts. He wanted to become a Gunner but with his need to wear glasses, was not accepted so he signed on as a cook. He served on HMCS Stadaconaand HMCS St. Laurent out of Halifax and theYork while in Scotland. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-45 Star as well as the RCNVR Long ServiceGood Conduct Medal. After his discharge on September 28, 1945, Lorne and Katie built Big Tub Lodge in Tobermory which they operated for 21 years. After selling the lodge in 1966, Lorne was employed by the Ministry of Transport as an inspector. He retired to Tobermory 1982. Lorne was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290 before he passed away on December 12, 1999. LYLE, David David was born in Brantford, Ontario on November 19, 1874. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on July 6, 1915 and served in Canada, Britain and France. He was discharged on November 10, 1917. David was awarded the 19141915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victoria Medal. David raised five sons and three daughters and was Chairman of the school board. He passed away on August 25, 1947 and was a member of the Brantford Legion Branch.
