209 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LOUNSBURY, Elton Martin Elton was born in Wheatley, Ontario on January 1, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on January 20, 1943 and served as an Able Seaman aboard HMCS New Glasgow, a river class frigate. His ship served on convoy duty in the North Atlantic but also made one trip to Murmansk on the famous Murmansk Run. He often said one trip there was quite enough. The New Glasgow’s one claim to fame was that it rammed and sank the last German U-Boat of the war off Londonderry, England. After his discharge on October 22, 1945, Elton joined Wheatley Legion Branch 324 in March 1946 and was a member for 67 consecutive years before he passed away on March 30, 2013. LOVE, Elmer Elmer was born on January 21, 1921, in Markdale, Ontario. He joined the Army in September 1942 and served with the Grey Simcoe Foresters, 1st Hussars, in Canada, England and Northwest Europe before being discharged on March 5, 1946. Elmer was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tara Branch 383 for 54 years before he passed away on January 8, 2002. LOVE, Alan W. Alan was born in England on March 30, 1926. He joined the Royal Marines on June 9, 1943 and served in the South Pacific on HMS Indomitable until his discharge on September 18, 1946. Alan was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Perry Branch 419 for eighteen years before his death on January 10, 2000.
