199 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEGATE, Howard Henry Joseph “Joe” Joe was born in Owen Sound, Ontario in 1942. He attended school in Elmvale and Guelph. In his youth, Joe worked for a sawmill and on a midway. He joined the Army in London, Ontario in February 1962 and received basic training. Serving in the Royal Canadian Regiment, Joe was posted to Germany. Further assignments of peacekeeping duties in Cypress and a transfer to London, Ontario in 1967 followed. He was again posted to Germany, but it was not long before he was sent on exchange toAustralia for two months, New Zealand for two months, and Burma for two months. He was returned to Germany for three months before posting to Petawawa, Ontario. He returned once again to Germany, this time to Baden before his discharge in 1973. Joe stayed in Germany until 1983 working for a firm making carnival wagons and then he worked for the British army. When Joe returned to Canada, he worked for a building supply company in Durham and in 2001 retired from a sand and gravel company. Joe is married to Sharon, and they have seven children. They reside in Hanover and is a nineteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 130. LÉGER, Joseph J. Joseph was born in Acadian Siding, New Brunswick on March 31, 1922. He enlisted on April 3, 1940 and served with the St. John Fusiliers and the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa, “B” Company, in England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Slovakia. He was discharged on December 11, 1945. Joseph was awarded the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the GBR Medal. Joseph was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Perry Branch 419 before he passed away on June 9, 2007. LEGAULT, Joseph Ernest Joseph was born in Casselman, Ontario, on January 17, 1917. He was the eldest grandson of a shoemaker in a small rural town outside of Ottawa. He was educated at the Seminary in Montreal, Quebec. Joseph taught Senior Matriculation, Physical and Health Education, Band and Latin plus pre-University courses to the Cadet Service Corps at DeLaSalle Bond Street and Oakland also at Sibbald’s Point campuses. Joseph also taught singing to the officers in training choir at St. Michael’s College, Toronto. In November 1944, Joseph returned to Ottawa to stand with his mother when she received the Silver Cross honouring his younger brother who was mortally wounded leading his troops during the final days of the Caen campaign. After World War II, Joseph became Principal for the newly formed Metropolitan Separate School Board, finishing his career there as Director of Curriculum, Physical and Health education. After a lifetime of health challenges, Joseph died peacefully at his cottage in Baysville, Ontario, on August 5, 2002, at the age of 86.
