373 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND Youth Education Literary Program Lest We Forget Legion Branches throughout Ontario Command sponsor various youth programs on an ongoing basis. One such program is an educational program regarding Remembrance. The Legion believes that educating our youth on the high cost of their freedom is one of their most important roles.We must impress upon our young people of today who have never known war, that freedom was won at a cost of many lives, young lives like their own. The annual Ontario Command Youth Education Literary Program that includes, poems, posters and essays with a Remembrance theme, assists our young students on focusing their attention on those who gave their all for the freedom we enjoy today. Since this program is centered around Remembrance and our Veterans, we would like to share some of the poems, posters and essays that were originally entered by various school students in their local Legion Branch competitions. The entries that have been included in this volume were successful in being entered into the Provincial competitions and are the first, second and third place finishers in the primary, junior, intermediate and senior categories at the Provincial level.
