339 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STEPHENS, George Alexander “Jim” Jim was born in Southend, Essex, England on November 24, 1920. He served in the Royal Navy (Regular Force) on a minesweeper at the rank of Able Seaman. Jim married Catherine Menzies Lornie and they had two sons. Cathy and Jim immigrated to Canada in 1956 and lived in Newmarket until his passing on August 18, 1995. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 426 for fifty years. STEVENS, George Ellwood George was born in Preston, Cambridge, Ontario on October 17, 1921. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and became a Pilot Officer, flying Wellington aircraft during World War II. He did some patrolling of the English Channel. He was discharged in 1945. George had a natural gift of music in singing and was a member of the Knox Presbyterian choir and the KW harmonizers for 69 wonderful years. His career was in the Office Supply business, but his love and gift for photography was his passion. He also won the Yates award for highest academic achievement upon graduation. He was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126 for over 50 years. He was married to his loving war bride Jean for 76 years. He met and married Jean in England in 1945 while he was serving with the RCAF. George passed away on January 7, 2022, at the age of 100. STEPHENSON, Frederick Mac “Dick” Frederick, more commonly known as “Dick”, was born on April 8, 1921, in Brussels, Ontario, where he lived his entire life before and after the war. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1942 and served in the Perth Regiment as a Private. He was sent overseas in 1943 and served in Holland. He was demobilized in 1945. He was never very open about his time overseas and when he returned home to civilian life, he returned to meet his 2-year-old son, born while he was overseas. He worked as a laborer in the town of Brussels, then Dublin and retired from StarCraft RV in Listowel. He was an avid dart player at the Brussels Legion for years. He was a dedicated member of the Brussels United Church where he ushered every week. Dick passed away on February 3, 1985, and was survived by his wife Sarah, his only son Fred, and three granddaughters.
