319 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RUTTAN, Clarence W. Clarence was born in Bracebridge, Ontario on December 29, 1912. He enlisted in the Army on August 3, 1942 and served with the Canadian Infantry Corps in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on February 20, 1946. Clarence received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion General Nelles Branch 124 in Niagara on the Lake. Clarence passed away on July 15, 1979. RUTTAN, Matthew Robert Matthew was born in Brampton, Ontario on July 4, 1991. Matthew enlisted in the Army in 2014 and currently serves our country. Sergeant Ruttan is a qualified Detachment Commander with 30th Field Royal Canadian Artillery and his current roll is the Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant for the regiment. He has deployed for domestic operations such as Operation LENTUS to support the Quebec Floods in 2017 and Operation LASER in support of COVID-19 as the Camp Sergeant Major’s second in command and Camp Services Commander in 2020. Sergeant Ruttan is the son of Peter Ruttan, grandson of Phillip Ruttan, and greatgrandson of Milton Ruttan. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Central Muskoka Branch 161. RUTTAN, Lawrence Albert Lawrence was born on February 9, 1924, in Deer Lake, Muskoka, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1942 during World War II and was part of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. Following the war, he transferred to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and was part of the 2nd Battalion during the Korean War where he earned a Mention in Dispatches. Following Korea, Lawrence transferred to the Canadian Provost Corps where he served until retirement. Lawrence is the youngest brother of Milton Ruttan. He was awarded the Ambassador for Peace Medal by the South Korean Embassy. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 226 in Gibbons, Alberta. He was a resident of Bracebridge and Plamondon. Lawrence passed away on March 5, 1991.
