309 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND REAMAN, Norman Oliver Norman was born on November 26, 1894, in Maryborough Township, to farmers William Reaman and Catherine Ernst. He was working as a teacher in Croydon, Ontario when he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with 146th Overseas Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force on January 24, 1916. He was serving with 20th Battalion Canadian Infantry Central Ontario Regiment when he arrived in France on February 17, 1917. He was killed by machine gun fire while attacking near Marcelcave on August 8, 1918. He was laid to rest at Plot 16, Row D, Grave 6, at Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Somme, France. ROBERTS, Benjamin Richard Benjamin was born in Port Hope, Ontario on April 9, 1913, the son of Beal Rogers Roberts and Annie May (Smith) Roberts. In the early years of World War II, he worked at Defense Industries Ltd. in Ajax, Ontario until he enrolled in the Canadian Army (Regular Force) on March 13, 1944. Private Benjamin Roberts joined the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers. In the winter of 1944-1945, he took part in Operation Eskimo, which saw a small force of American Air Corps and Canadian Engineers train together for arctic warfare in Northern Saskatchewan. With the war ending, he was discharged on February 27, 1946. After his return to civilian life, he worked at Ontario Hydro and lived in Carleton Place. He was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 192 in Carleton Place. Benjamin passed away on January 17, 1989, in Carleton Place. REYNOLDS, Joseph Leonard Joseph was born in West Bromvich, England on December 9, 1926. Joseph was a defense dispatch rider from the age of 16 to 18 bicycling in the blackouts during the air raids to 22 posts. He was called to arms in December 1944 until his release in 1948. He served in the Royal Inniskilling Fusilier British Army 55 Division as a mortar Sergeant in the United Kingdom, Italy and Austria. His primary training took place in Ireland. Joseph married Rita in 1952 and raised two children, Denise, Joanne and 3 grandchildren. He immigrated to Canada on the “Scythia” in April 1954 and worked as an engineering mechanical fitter for many years. Robert joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 258 Highland Creek, West Hill in 1966, transferred to Scarborough Centennial Branch 614 in 1976 and has been a very proud member of Bay Ridges Branch 606 Pickering since 2001, a total for 55 years receiving the 50-year long service Medal. His military service awarded him the 1939-1945 Defence Medal, 1939-1945 Star, and 1939-1945 War Medal. Joseph continues to reside in Pickering since his retirement in 1963 from General Motors Canada.
